On a Saturday afternoon, my mom, myself and my husband trucked carloads of stuff into the Taylorsville Bennion Heritage Center. With an hour until go time, we turned on the tunes and got set up for what we hoped would be a mildly successful inaugural Plus Size Clothing Swap in Salt Lake City. As soon as the clock hit 1, we had a line of beautiful women looking to trade, and donate clothing.
First we ran out of hangers, then out of tables. My husband jumped to put out 4 more tables than we initially thought we’d need. Clothing and babes came pouring in, and we were overwhelmed with great clothes and big smiles. Babies in arms, Moms and daughters shopping together, I was floored at how many Babes showed up to the swap!
All our prize winners showed up and got their prizes, and we raffled off an amazing Self Care Sunday themed gift basket. All proceeds went to covering the rent for the building, and we made back the money almost to the dollar!
We had a lip make-over booth with local vendor Kiss and Make-up Boutique, who helped the ladies not only get dressed up, but glammed out too!
At the end of the event, all the ladies took their great hauls, and we had a whole carload of clothing to donate to the local homeless shelter, the Road Home. Homeless shelters struggle to get good plus size clothing, so I was so glad to give so much work-wear and jeans and dresses to women in need along the Wasatch Front.
I spent Saturday evening in awe of the wonderful community we have here. I felt so humbled to have been involved in your lives, and to have shared this wonderful afternoon with so many fantastic women. Thank you for coming, thank you for participating. Thank you for all you do.
I can’t wait until the next swap, and I’m planning one for August! See you there!!
